Follow-Up - Community Meeting - Dept. of Transportation
Posted Date: 07/08/26 (09:39 AM)
Good morning, SV Community!
As part of the feedback from the community meetings regarding consolidation, we were asked to look into the intersection at IN-63/1st Street (Wildcat Dr.). We met with the Indiana Dept. of Transportation yesterday morning. It was a productive conversation, and we believe that, in the short term, we can work with INDOT to create a reduced speed school zone on 63 to increase student safety for our bus traffic and student traffic. The reduced speed would be for a specified time frame during the morning commute and evening drop-off (typically signaled with flashing lights). In the long-term, we have talked through a few different options with them. We know that INDOT has continuous requests to look at roads and intersections across Indiana, and we understand that INDOT has specific parameters to follow when it comes to "Reduced Conflict Intersections" (RCI). We believe that the long-term focus over the next few years is to do another study of the traffic flow and to consider RCI numbers across the intersections leading from Fairview to 63. They also introduced the idea of possibly having student driver safety classes to discuss these intersections specifically. We appreciate the feedback from our stakeholders and the openness of INDOT to address the concerns of our parents and community members! As always, please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns - mwilliams@svcs.k12.in.us.
