Important Info Regarding Canvas Data Breach

We want to inform you about a recent data security incident involving Canvas, the learning management system used by our students in grades 2–12.

What happened?
Canvas (operated by Instructure) recently identified a security breach that may have involved unauthorized access to certain user information. Here is Instructure's statement regarding the breach. While the investigation is ongoing, we are sharing what we currently know so you can take appropriate steps.

What information may have been involved?
Depending on the account, the following information may have been exposed:
  • Student and parent names
  • Email addresses (both students' and parents' emails)
  • Course enrollments and assignments
  • School-related communications within Canvas

At this time, there is no indication that financial information, Social Security numbers, or passwords were accessed. However, out of an abundance of caution, we recommend taking the steps below.

What should you do?
  • Reset your Canvas password (parents)
  • If you use the same password elsewhere, update those accounts as well
  • Be cautious of unexpected emails, messages, or links claiming to be from the school or Canvas
  • Avoid clicking suspicious links or sharing personal information - phishing attempts
  • Students and parents: If you receive an email appearing to be from Canvas, do not open, instead, open the Canvas app or website to view information

What is the school doing?
  • We are working closely with Canvas and monitoring updates from their security team
  • We will continue to communicate any new information as it becomes available

Need help?
If you have questions or need assistance updating your account, please contact jfossi@svcs.k12.in.us.
We take the privacy and security of our students and families very seriously and appreciate your partnership as we work through this situation.

Summer Swim Info

 SOUTH VERMILLIONS SWIM CLUB
The South Vermillion Swim Club will begin on Monday, May 18th. We will have swim practice every evening from 3:30 - 5:00 PM for the first 2 practices & 8:00 - 9:30 AM once school is out for the summer. The club is open to boys and girls, ages 4 through 18. Sign-ups will take place on the first night of practice. You will be given a calendar of all the meets and practices.

If your child has had swim lessons and can swim one length of the pool, he or she would be much better served by joining the club instead of taking swim lessons. Not all practices are required, and there is no pressure to compete. The practice sessions are just one step above swimming lessons, while building self-confidence and personal discipline.

There will be a fee of $75. Make checks payable to South Vermillion Aquatics Club.
Our main objectives are to have fun and to learn to be a better swimmer. If you have any questions, call Dirk Wilson (765) 592-3186 and Cynthia Cammack (765) 918-3339

SUMMER SWIM LESSONS
Summer swim lessons will again be offered this year at South Vermillion High School. The cost will be $75 per child. Sign-up will begin Friday, May 1st. Please sign up as soon as possible! We will have two two-week sessions. The class schedules run as follows:

1st - May 26 - June 5, 2nd - June 8 - June 19
10:00AM - 3 years and up, plus preschool
10:45AM - 3 years and up, plus preschool
11:30AM - 3 years and up, plus preschool
12:15PM - 3 years and up, plus preschool

Sign up in the high school front office or call Kent Musall at the high school at 832-3551 ext. 2517. Leave all information needed on voicemail: parent’s name, child’s name and age, home phone, work phone, cell phone, and address. Total payment for your entire child’s swim lessons can be made on Saturday, May 23rd, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the school pool. Come to the door as you would for swim lessons, and come to the pool office. I (Mr. Musall) will be there to collect money. Do not send money. There are no down payments.

*Subject to cancellation by South Vermillion School Corporation due to health/safety protocols.
